Please tune in August 11th, Wednesday, at 12 noon US Eastern Time, to www.healthylife.net when I present “The Healing Sounds Show“. My guest for this show will be Therese Schroeder-Sheker .
Harpist, singer and composer Therese Schroeder-Sheker made her Carnegie Hall debut in 1980, and has maintained dual careers in music and palliative medicine. She has concertized across three continents for 30 years, chaired university and seminary departments and programs, and publishes frequently. With thirty-six years of clinical experience serving the physical and spiritual needs of the dying, she founded the palliative medical field of music-thanatology and The Chalice of Repose Project, the voice of music-thanatology worldwide.
While serving as Academic Dean of the School of Music-Thanatology, she has founded large, all-city, multi-institutional clinical practices serving thousands of patients and their families with prescriptive music, and placed graduate students in hospitals and hospices nationwide, from Seattle to New York, Austin to Milwaukee. Chalice graduates work nationwide as professional music-thanatologists and together, she and her colleagues work in every psycho-social setting where the dying are found. Ms. Schroeder-Sheker’s dynamic career has been distinguished with over one-hundred scholarly publications, five CD recordings, numerous film scores, an Emmy, a gold record, a Christopher, a Palm Springs International Film Festival First-Place, a Jerome, a Gabriel, a St. Catherine University Myser Initiative, and numerous clinical, cultural and media grants and awards. She has delivered plenaries and keynotes for over one hundred and twenty-five national and international medical, nursing, theology, psychology and medievalist congresses, and routinely publishes in the fields of contemplative musicianship and music-thanatology. Her work has been featured on special documentaries for the major commercial and public broadcasting television networks in the United States and Europe: ABC, NBC, PBS, CNN, cable, etc. She has worked as an artist and clinician in residence at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC since 2002 and as a contributing editor for Elsevier’s Explore: The Journal of Science & Healing for four years.
