In our last blog, I discussed the importance of the vagus nerve in terms of affecting our stress and immunological system. While the vagus nerve is for the most part unconsciously controlled, several things are known to positively effect it and help create good vagal tone—our breathing and humming. Also, meditation has been show to have a positive effect. In a previous blog, the importance of “intent” was discussed with regard to enhancing the power of our hum. These will all contribute to what’s called HRV or Heart Rate Variability which is a great indication of how relaxed we are. Now, I would like to combine these three elements—breath, humming and intention for a simple, yet powerful technique.
First, I would like to honor the work of HeartMath Institute which has brought to light the importance of “Heart/Brain Coherence”. It has long been known that our brain puts our an electro-magnetic field. More recently, it has been shown that our heart also puts out an electro-magnetic field. The research of HeartMath has shown that when our heart and our brain are in a state of harmony—what is called “coherence”—then the field created by the heart is much greater than the brain. Some speculate 50 times greater. Some speculate 500 times greater. There is even data that indicates it may be 5000 times greater than that of the brain by itself.
This is startlingly important because it means that this field is not only measurable, but currently it has been found to extended several feet from the body. This of course is only current and modest measurements. The field may be much greater—particularly if two or more people are creating this Heart Brain Coherence (or what is known as a Heart Lock) together. HeartMath (and many other organizations) are creating wonderful “Global Coherence” projects in which people throughout our planet will do this Heart Brain Coherence together. This is similar to what we experience on World Sound Healing Day (and indeed in the “Global Ah” that we make available, we utilize techniques of this nature).
Before we go into what this technique is, I’d like to point out that doing the “Heart Lock” helps manifest positive Heart Rate Variability (HRV). In addition, as previously noted, humming also does this. Thus, I’d like to suggest by combining Heart Brain Coherence (which is simply breathing while doing a specific visualization) with Conscious Humming, you may have a technology that enhances and amplifies our HRV even more. This has been the experience of many who have worked with this technique.
The following is a sonic guided meditation that will assist in creating coherence of your heart and your brain. The purpose for this meditation is two fold. First, to amplify your energy field and to enhance your immune system and your heart chakra. Second, to send healing energies to the Gaia Matrix—our beloved planet Earth. We will do this through a technique that creates coherences between your heart and your brain. This effect will further be amplified by the power of the sound of the HUM, that you will be toning along with later in this sonic meditation, bringing more Light and Love into your body, mind and spirit for health and wellness, and into our beloved planet.
To begin, sit comfortably in a chair. Begin by breathing slowly, taking nice deep breaths in and out. Breathing in, holding it for a moment and then releasing your breath. Breathing in. Holding it and then releasing it. As you continue breathing in this manner, think of something that you feel appreciation for. Something that you are grateful for. Something you feel good about. It can be a person—a spouse, an offspring, a parent, a sibling, a friend—a loved one! Or it can be a pet or a beautiful sunrise somewhere or perhaps a mountain streams or the waves of the ocean lapping against the shore of a beach.
Visualize whatever it is you are grateful for and feel this energy of appreciation in your heart center.
Continue breathing in this manner, breathing slowly and deeply, and feeling appreciation and gratitude. As you are doing this, imagine that your breath is going in and out through your heart. As you are breathing in, your breath is also going into your heart. And as you’re breathing out, your breath is also going out through your heart.
This is just a wonderful way of creating a very powerful heart activation that you’ll be amplifying with the sound of the HUM, which many believe is the sound of creation. Continue breathing slowly and deeply, while feeling appreciation and gratitude, and imagining your breath going in and out through your heart. This is helping build the electromagnetic field of your heart.
Feel this energy as radiant Light that is permeating every cell of your body, enhancing your immune system. In a moment we’ll begin to gently sound forth with the HUM together. Feel the sacred, intentionalized vibrating you are creating bringing health, balance and wellness to every aspects of your being.
Visualize this energy and begin to sense a radiant Light around you that is permeating every cell of your body, enhancing your immune system and resonating your heart chakra. Then we’ll begin to gently sound forth with the sound of the hum that we’ll make together. We’ll hum for five minutes and then we’ll be in silence. When you make this sound feel the sacred, intentionalized vibrations you are creating bringing health, balance and wellness to every aspects of your being. And as you do this, visualize the planet Earth as a holographic image floating in front of you. Imagine bathing the Earth in a healing field of Light & Love that you are creating through your sacred Sound.
Now let us begin to HUM together, brining the energy of Global Harmonization—peace and healing—to our beloved planet, the Earth.
Please hum for a few minutes. And at the conclusion of this exercise, remember to be in silence, continuing to feel appreciation and wonder and visualizing the Earth being bathed in this sacred energy.
Remember, the more you practice this, the more powerful the effect will be.
