Please tune in October 13th, Wednesday, at 12 noon US Eastern Time, to www.healthylife.net when I present “The Healing Sounds Show”. My guest for this show will be Silvia Nakkach .
Silvia Nakkach has been profiled by the Utne Reader magazine as one of “forty cutting-edge artists who will shake the art world in the new millennium.” Silvia has cultivated a voice that transports listeners into the heart of devotion, while garnering numerous awards, grants, and commissions as a composer and performer. She is an internationally accredited specialist in cross-cultural music therapies, including music in shamanism.
Silvia holds Master’s Degrees in Music Composition, Psychology, and Music Therapy. In addition to her many academic credentials, Silvia has devoted more than 27 years to the study of classical Indian music and the art of raga singing under the direction of the late Maestro Ali Akbar Khan. Her work has led her to participate in the research of micro-tonal singing and clinical uses of the voice to support emotional healing. Silvia’s therapeutic vocal techniques have become landmarks in the field of integrative sound healing, and widely used in Hospices, Wellness and Integrative Medicine Centers.
Silvia teaches at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco where she created the certificate program in Sound, Voice and Music Healing, the first program of its kind offered by a major academic institution. She is also the founding director of The Vox Mundi School of Sound and the Voice, that has committed more than 22 years to the preservation of unusual vocal arts through performance, education, and spiritual practice, with ongoing programs in the Bay Area, Hawaii, Brazil, Argentina, and India.
Her interest in indigenous music and spirituality has led her to work with many traditional healers of Indian and South American shamanic traditions. She has enjoyed fruitful collaborations with many of the pioneers in field of sound and consciousness: Pauline Oliveros, David Darling, John Beaulieu, Ralph Metzner, and Claudio Naranjo. She has released nine CD albums, and is a contributing author to several scholarly books on music and consciousness. To contact Silvia, please visit: voxmundiproject.com
